Giraffes or really big dogs?

Have you ever fed a giraffe? Our friends invited us to go to the Cheyenne mountain Zoo with them, and we got the chance. It was an unexpected little treat, I mean a fun oppertunity. I was amazed that the giraffes' long purple toungues didn't take off a finger somewhere. I heard a couple squeals, but no missing appendages. Our girls got a real kick out of it. There were even some little baby giraffes, ok, big baby giraffes. I was really surprised how nice the zoo was, I expected something a lot smaller because of the location. We are planning on returning, because we didn't get a chance to see it all, so anyone that would like to join us you are more than welcome.....

our garden

This year, I'm so excited to say that we planted a garden. The first very real one of our own. Sure I've helped with family gardens, and planted a few tomato plants here and there, but this is the first that has a whole section of the yard devoted to fruits and vegtables of all shapes and sizes.


So far we have planted: tomatoes, corn, bush beans, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, green and purple peppers, cilantro, sunflowers, variety of cutting flowers, pumpkins, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries.

Mostly everything we started from seeds, the girls were so excited to see them finally pop up out of the ground. And I was relieved that they were going to grow. It's amazing to watch the miracle of LIFE! And I'm sure that we will love it even more as we get to reap the rewards during harvest time! It has been fun to have the girls take part in this little experiment, they come out and water, weed, and move dirt around with me.


I'm sure that Kyrie will have the love of plants as much as I do. She wrote this during school one day ( I helped with a couple of words, but she surprised me and wrote most of it herself) : to dAy we gest platded A Garden. Beans are Sprouteng up and we gest platded gras I luve The noo house and The Garden. I luve to watch The flowers grow eeven no I dote hav mi on Garden.

This is huge leaps and bounds as she is overcoming the fear of not spelling perfectly every time! I hope that she is learning that it is OK to make mistakes, goodness knows I make plenty to be the perfect example of that!
